Duke made his seventh start of the season on Sunday evening at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and for the seventh straight start he went home a winner for
partners Jamie Copley and Dave Tingley.
Despite a class hike, the six-year-old son of Dexter Nukes handled the competition with the greatest of ease en route to hauling home the lion’s share of the $7,600 purse and a new speed badge of 1:53.3. The victory also earned him the distinction of being the winningest horse in North America this season.
Duke tucked into an early three-hole for driver Todd Warren, who had the Jamie Copley trainee attacking first-over past the half in :58.3. He took over command while still parked at the three-quarter pole in 1:25.3 before finishing off his foes with a :28-second final quarter.
Sent off as the 3-5 choice in the six-horse affair, Duke kicked away to win by more than three lengths over runner-up Aces Alone. Jersey Dan tagged along to finish third.
Unraced until latter stages of his five-year-old season, Duke put together a 4-3-1 record in 13 trips postward in his first year at the races prior to assembling this year's 7-for-7 record.
