It has been announced that a 13-year CEO of a casino lobbying organization recently stepped away from his post and has become the new executive director of a major horse racing commission.

Citing an announcement from the Indiana Horse racing Commission, an article by The Paulick Report explains that Michael Smith has been named executive director of the IHRC.

Smith stepped away from his CEO position with the Casino Association of Indiana this past December. The piece explains that Smith’s family owned Thoroughbreds in the 1960s, and that he was a member of the state’s House of Representatives from 1993 to 2002.

The commission’s chairman, Thomas Weatherwax, has been cited as saying that the integrity and growth of the IHRC will continue under Smith’s watch.

“The commission continues its commitment to maintain the highest integrity for Indiana's racing along with fostering and promoting an environment that will encourage investment and growth of Indiana horse racing to expand the industry's role in Indiana's economy,” Weatherwax stated. “Knowing that Mike shares the commission's goals, we believe his leadership will continue our progress.”
