Meadows Preferred To Appomattox

Appomattox vaulted to the lead from Post 9, then cruised to a comfortable victory in Monday’s $22,500 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

Appomattox had been taking on tough fields at The Meadowlands and more than holding his own. The six-year-old, battle-tested son of Yankee Glide-Courtney Hill had little trouble overcoming his difficult post position and scoring in 1:55.1, two lengths better than the rallying Classicality. The pocket-sitting TSM Photo Bugger held third.

Ron Burke trains Appomattox, who now boasts $456,398 in career earnings, for Reima Kuisla Stable.

Mike Wilder and Burke each fashioned a four-bagger on the 14-race card while Tony Hall enjoyed a triple.

The Meadows will feature two total pool guarantees — a $12,500 guarantee for the Pick 5 and a $5,000 guarantee for the Pick 4 – during the Tuesday, February 3 card of live racing. Both are offered as part of the United States Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering Initiative.

The Meadows added the “instant” Pick 5 guarantee after Monday’s Pick 5 was uncovered, resulting in a $3,498.89 carryover, while the $5,000 Pick 4 guarantee is a regular feature each Monday and Tuesday.

Minimum wager for the Pick 4 (races 4-7) and Pick 5 (races 10-14) is 50 cents. Since Pennsylvania law requires a minimum per-race wager of $2, a player wagering at the 50-cent level must bet at least four tickets.

First post for Tuesday’s program is 12:55 p.m.
