According to a report by The Associated Foreign Press, those on each side of New York City's horse-drawn carriage issue showed their respective allegiances Friday, January 30, as hundreds of people packed City Hall to participate in a public debate about the issue.
Shouting matched between the two sides took place after the official debate. No voting took place on a bill that would see the historic trade outlawed in the city. The AFP report states that New York politics experts are predicting that the bill will fail since mayor Michael Bloomberg is opposed.
"End the suffering of the poor, worn-down animals," PETA's Michael McGraw was quoted as bellowing out.
"Lunacy. Ludicrous. It makes no sense," the report quotes 22-year Central Park carriage driver Frank Rodden as saying in regard to the bill.
