Veteran local trotter Cash Me Out, by Cash Hall, made his return in style to ‘the Spa’ on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 17), as the 2019 racing season at Saratoga Casino Hotel got underway.
The Kyle Spagnola-trained Cash Me Out, who has spent the majority of his career competing at Saratoga, prevailed in the track’s first Open Trot of the season on Sunday. Phil Fluet guided the 1-5 betting favourite out to the early lead in the $12,000 contest and the veteran high-stepper never faced an anxious moment.
Cash Me Out got the money, as he went coast-to-coast with relative ease and stopped the timer in 1:57.1. Mandeville (who was driven by Jimmy Devaux) finished second, while Zagster (Billy Dobson) earned the show spot.
Cash Me Out’s win, which was the 38th of his 164-start career, boosted his lifetime earnings to just above the $995,000 mark.
Saratoga’s 78th racing season is now underway and will feature matinee race cards this week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons starting at 12:00 p.m. each day.
