A report out of British Columbia profiling the provincial harness racing has delved into some of the issues that the local industry is currently wrestling with, although, the article also focuses on some of BC’s optimism.
The article, which appears in the Cloverdale Reporter, quotes racetrack veteran Sandra Roberts as saying that she won’t be able to race another year unless more race dates are scheduled in BC.
The report states that Fraser Downs is only scheduled to race 26 days this year. “I won’t survive (another year),” Roberts was quoted as saying.
The article has cited Great Canadian Gaming Corp. Executive Director of Stakeholder Relations Chuck Keeling as saying that it is possible that the track could land more race dates for 2014.
The report cites Keeling as drawing parallels between harness racing and the poker industry, as the latter has shown the ability to strongly rebound from waning interest and popularity.
