Fifty Is Nifty For Our Lucky Killean

A victory in Monday’s $12,000 Preferred-2 proved to be a memorable one for veteran Our Lucky Killean, as the charismatic performer notched his 50th lifetime win

The Casie Coleman-trained gelding was treated to a pocket trip by driver Robert Shepherd, who stalked Hoosier King through fractions of :28.3, :59.3 and 1:28 before going on the attack. Our Lucky Killean fired home in a :28-second clip to win by half a length over Victory Creed in 1:56.2, with Hoosier King fading late to finish third.

The 11-year-old son of Camluck-Our Emblem, who is owned by West Wins Stable of Cambridge, ON, has put away more than $1.4 million in his career.

Mach It Big rallied to a narrow score in the featured $15,500 Preferred Pace for the tandem of driver J.R. Plante and trainer Richard Moreau. The four-year-old son of Mach Three-Belinda Hanover led the field to the quarter pole in :27.3 before releasing Acceptable Risk to the top. Allamerican Motive pressed the new leader through middle splits of :57.3 and 1:25.4, but that battle eventually took its toll on both of them. Mach It Big reemerged and used a :29.3 closing kick to secure the win by three-quarters of a length over Part Shark in 1:55.4. Race favourite Acceptable Risk managed to hang on for third prize.

Keith and Deborah Cassell of Smiths Falls, ON share ownership on the OSS graduate, who won for the fourth time in his last five tries. The nine-time winner has now stashed away in excess of $149,110.
