Tyler Borth celebrated his first driving victory on Friday at The Raceway at The Western Fair District when he guided his father's trainee Region Hall to a narrow victory in the evening’s third race.
It was just the 13th career drive for the 19-year-old, who is the son of veteran Ontario horseman Bill Borth.
The younger Borth sent Region Hall straight to the front from Post 7 in Friday night’s contest. After setting all the fractions, he dug in gamely in the stretch to hold off the determined favourite, Escalade, for the nose decision in 2:05.1. Bell Spur finished half a length behind in third.
The Ingersoll father-son duo shares ownership of the lightly raced four-year-old trotter, who paid $23.40 for the upset.
