The Brian Jerome Memorial at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, Dec. 8, was won by pacer Proberts Legacy, driven by Pascal Berube for trainer Marc-Andre Simoneau.
Berube, who had five wins on the 10-race card, guided the nine-year-old gelding pacer to victory in 1:57.3. The race honours Brian Jerome, a founding member of the Ontario Harness Horse Association Horsepersons Committee at Rideau Carleton Raceway and the National Capital Region Harness Horse Association. His devotion and dedication to advancing the sport will never be forgotten.
Uber Hanover (Guy Gagnon) was quick to leave the gate and grab the lead, but Going Yard (Stephane Pouliot) soon overtook him. After a :28 first quarter, Uber Hanover reclaimed the front and hit the half in :57.2. Proberts Legacy, positioned sixth, followed second-over behind Bad Apple (Robert Shepherd). Maintaining control, Uber Hanover reached the three-quarter mark in 1:26.4. Proberts Legacy made a powerful three-wide move around the final turn, fending off a fast-closing BS Tyrrific (Jimmy Gagnon) to capture the Brian Jerome Memorial in 1:57.3.
Proberts Legacy is co-owned by trainer Simoneau and the Desjardins Noreau Stable. This victory marks his sixth win of the season, pushing his lifetime earnings to $172,278.
In addition to his win in the memorial race, Berube triumphed in four other races on the card: Race 5 with Ronda Du Lac (1:57.2), Race 7 with Hurrikane Cheyenne (1:55.4), Race 9 with Manhattan Joe (1:57.2), and Race 10 with Perpetual Rock (1:53.4).
