Drivingthedragon N took the lead mid-mile and went on to dethrone Mischieviousgirls in the featured $10,000 Preferred 2 class for filly and mare pacers on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at Flamboro Downs.
When the starter released the eighth race field, Katherine B left quickly down the center of the track and crossed to command with Pictonian Sareta filling the pocket spot over inside starter Drivingthedragon N.
However, Pictonian Sareta looped the early leader before the quarter-pole (:28.2) and then Drivingthedragon N launched her attack and went first over in front of the grandstand. Drivingthedragon N made steady gains and collared Pictonian Sareta just past the :58.1 half-mile mark.
Katherine B was back out during the third quarter (1:26.1) with race favourite Mischieviousgirls fanning off cover down the lane, but Drivingthedragon N remained clear on top and cruised home for the one and a half-length victory in 1:56.2.
Drivingthedragon N was sent postward as the 5-2 second wagering choice to runner-up Mischieviousgirls, who won this class last week. Drivingthedragon N paid $7.20 to win. Katherine B finished third.
Carmen Auciello trains and owns the six-year-old Sutter Hanover mare, who has won eight of her 26 starts this year and just over $62,000 in purses.
The win was the second in a row on the card for driver Phil Hudon.
In other action, Annemarie Colville celebrated her first training victory in the evening's opener as Imacutiepatootie ($15.90) rallied wide from third over and defeated the outside leaver, Maxim Seelster, by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:57.2. Scott Coulter started his Wednesday night hat-trick with the three-year-old Tell All filly, who was bred and is co-owned by Colville, along with Michael Wade and Jennifer Giles.
