Guy Gagnon made little work of his evening at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday (Dec. 6), with the 14-race card seeing Guy visit the winner’s circle on nine occasions.

Among Guy’s nine wins was Seeyou Men, who scored in the $9,200 Preferred Trot in 1:57. Gagnon landed the eight-year-old Muscle Mass gelding in third to a :28.1 first quarter and remained put through a :58.1 half before being given his cue to march after the leader up the backstretch. By three-quarters in 1:27.4, Seeyou Men forged to the lead and maintained a one-length advantage on 8-5 favourite Ace Bi to the finish. Dr Spengler rallied for third.

Owned by Catheline Pelletier and Chantal Gravel, Seeyou Men won his third race from 19 starts this season and his 29th from 132 overall, earning $321,992. Gagnon also conditions the $7.00 winner, who gave the reinsman his fifth training win on the night. His other trainees who hit the beam first were Luke And Duke ($3.50), Undercover Strike ($3.40), Stelios ($3.50) and Matts Tuition ($10.00).

Trainer Mandy Archer collected a hat trick on the card and gave Gagnon another three victories. The pair won the opener with Two For Tripping ($4.60) and then later scored back-to-back scores with Richsnortherndream ($28.90) and Senior K ($2.60). Eric Milot also gave Gagnon a win in the penultimate race on the card with Mistys Delight ($4.70).

One race Gagnon did not win was the $9,200 Preferred Pace, but the reinsman came nonetheless close as he steered Avatar J to a third-place finish in a neck decision behind winner Vanilla Malted.

Starting from the pylon post, Vanilla Malted pushed for the front and led the field unchallenged through fractions of :26.4 and :55.1. Avatar J pulled out of third and ranged to equal terms with the pacesetter passing three-quarters in 1:23.4, remaining at Vanilla Malted’s side around the final turn. But Avatar J made little gains through the stretch as 2-1 favourite National Debt launched off his cover to narrowly take second in the 1:53.1 mile. Pocket-sitter Atomic Million AM finished fourth.

Co-owned by trainer John MacMillan with 2099551 Ontario Inc., Vanilla Malted won his 12th race from 31 starts this season and his 25th from 62 overall, earning $111,267. Clarke Steacy drove the four-year-old Sweet Lou gelding who paid $6.20 to win.
