Ontario invader Can I Say (sired by Fourth And One) won the Open Trot on Sunday afternoon for the second time in the last three weeks at Saratoga Casino and Raceway.
The Doug Berkeley-trained trotter went wire-to-wire in the $18,000 feature in 1:55.4. Bruce Aldrich Jr. piloted the mare Can I Say, who beat the boys as the race’s 2-5 favourite in the wagering. Longshot invader Gwally (Austin Siegelman) got the pocket ride behind the winner and held strong for second while last week’s Open winner, Stirling Cadet (Frank Coppola Jr.), came on for third.
Can I Say has now won three of her last four local starts with a second-place finish sandwiched between her victories.
The six-year-old homebred mare, who has won 26 races and $377,825 in purses lifetime, is owned by Terry Devos and Clarence Devos of Langton, Ont., and James Whelan of Troy, Ont.
Live racing resumes on Thursday as the racing season enters its final week. First post time on Thursday is set for 4 p.m.
