A pair of racing participants have been handed suspensions after a whip was passed off during a pari-mutuel race.
A report by Sporting Life explains that jockeys Davy Russell and Phillip Enright have been ruled off the Clonmel racecourse in Ireland after Enright used Russell’s whip in a recent race.
The article states that Russell dropped his whip early in the race and that he acquired Enright’s whip shortly thereafter.
Stewards cited Rule 272, which deals with ‘bringing racing into disrepute,’ in their decision to suspend the riders for a handful of race dates.
The report has cited Russell as saying that the incident was not premeditated and that the suspension has come as a bit of a shock to him.
