Emmy Lou Hayes Steals One

Emmy Lou Hayes was in control from start to finish in Thursday’s $25,000 Pop Up Series Final at Woodbine Mohawk Park, and in winning she earned a new lifetime mark in the process.

Trevor Henry put Emmy Lou Hayes on the lead from the outset and together the never looked back after whacking out fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:27.3. After stealing her way through easy, middle splits she stormed home in :28 to win by three lengths over Im Chiara. Katys Delight took home the show dough.

Shayne Barrington trains the three-year-old daughter of Ameripan Gigolo-Mcdaisy Cutter for partners Rick Rier and Paul Berberich. The win was her fifth of the season and it helped her overall cash stash climb to $47,992.

Shes A Sassy Beach took home top honours in the first division in the second leg of the Pop Up Series for female pacers who were non-winners of $30,000 in 2021.

With Jody Jamieson at the lines, the three-year-old daughter of Sunshine Beach-Lady Marina sat last in the field of six before roaring home in :27.4 to win by three lengths over Catch An Ace in a career-best clocking of 1:54.2. Race favourite Clodam Bayama was third.

Ken Middleton owns and trains the homebred who won for the second time this season and for the sixth time in her career. She’s inching closer to $100,000 in lifetime earnings.

Shemars Lady Havoc was a popular winner in the second division after being forced to overcome a first-over trip for driver James MacDonald.

The Peter Finnegan pupil, who was sent off as the 8-5 favourite, wore down pacesetting Miss Rockadali and then kicked home in :28.2 to defeat Amasa Arion by 1-1/4 lengths. Cranberry Brie rounded out the Trifecta ticket.

The six-year-old daughter of Dali-St Lads Havoc is a homebred owned by Sheila Lewis of Waterford, ON. The mare improved this year’s record to 3-4-2 from 32 starts while pushing her lifetime earnings over $100,000.

Shes Got Pizazz turned a two-hole trip into a 12-1 upset win in the first division in the second leg of the Pop Up Series for trotters who were non winners of $30,000 in 2021.

Travis Cullen had the six-year-old daughter of Manofmanymissions-Shes Not Red on top at the quarter pole in :28.2, but she was then covered up by race favourite Profound Paragon through middle splits of :58.1 and 1:27.4. Shes Got Pizazz found clearance in the lane and used a :28.3 closing panel to win by three-quarters of a length over Holdin Aces in 1:56.4. Wickenburgh took home the show dough.

Alan Fair trains the 16-time winner for owner Elizabeth Fair of Ancaster, ON. The win improved the mare’s 2021 record to 2-1-4 from 21 trips to the track and the winner’s share of the $17,000 purse boosted her lifetime bankroll to $229,196.

GP Dreamin was a repeat winner in the series thanks to her 1:56.3 decision in the second division for the team of driver Jody Jamieson and trainer Jared Bothwell.

The four-year-old daughter of Cornaro Dasolo-Fiorentina marched to the top from Post 5 and successfully chopped out panels of :28.1, :59 and 1:28.1 before rocketing home in :28.2 to seal the deal by 2-1/4 lengths over runner-up Horse Trader. Third prize was earned by a rallying Life Is A Feast.

The homebred, owned by the Estate of Carolyn Polillo of Brantford, ON, is now a three-time winner this year and an eight-time winner to date. Her share of the purse boosted her overall bankroll to $138,052.
