Shartin N Goes Wire-To-Wire In Poll

Shartin N closed out the 2019 Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll the way she started — on top.

Shartin N, a six-year-old pacing mare, was No. 1 in each of the poll’s 28 weeks. She received 23 first-place votes in this week’s final rankings.

Bettors Wish, a three-year-old pacing colt, finished No. 2 in the poll and Greenshoe, a three-year-old trotting colt, was No. 3. They were the only other horses to appear in the top 10 every week of this year’s poll.

None of the positions in the top 10 changed from last week, when the only Grand Circuit event on the schedule saw Shake That House win the Progress Pace.

The Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll does not determine Horse of the Year. The members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association vote on all Dan Patch Award division winners plus Trotter of the Year, Pacer of the Year and Horse of the Year.

Rankings based on the votes of harness racing media representatives on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

If she wins, Shartin will be the first HOTY that was born in New Zealand and I think she'll be the first HOTY that was born anywhere outside of North America.
