Trot Insider has learned that Invincible Shadow mare La Pan Dow, owned by Jim Cherry, was euthanized today at the age of 29

.

La Pan Dow, out of the Penn Hanover mare Napal Mist, faced the gate for 146 pari-mutuel starts. The black mare finished on the board in almost half of those starts, as she retired with 37 wins to her credit to go along with 15 second-place finishes and 18 thirds.

The mare retired with over $227,000 on her card and a mark of 1:57.3 taken at age six at the Meadowlands.

In her broodmare days, La Pan Dow foaled seven offspring, the most notable being Miss Pan Dow (p,6,1:54.2f--$186,975), who compiled a record of 30-30-17 from 155 career starts.

Caretaker Carolyn Williston told Trot Insider that La Pan Dow had been living out her days at Garrett's Farm in Moffat, Ont.

The mare was suffering from very bad arthritis, and her connections came to the very tough decision to have the mare euthanized instead of going through another tough winter.

"She was the boss right to the end," Williston told Trot Insider.
