SOS Starmania won one for the favourite players and Buckys Luck did the same for the longshot lovers in Monday’s co-features at Sulky Trois Rivieres.
Despite being parked every step of the mile, SOS Starmania managed to deliver as the 3-2 favourite in the $15,000 conditioned trot for the duo of trainer Lucille Gauthier and driver Patrick Richer.
The five-year-old son of Promising Catch cleared to the lead in the late stages of the mile and drew clear to win by a comfortable margin in 2:03. Dash Car was second best and Caprior Car faded to finish third after setting most of the speed.
The victory was the gelding’s fifth of the season and the 14th of his career. He is quickly closing in on $150,000 in lifetime earnings for Gauthier and partners Jean Guy Martineau and Richard Desrosiers of Quebec.
Buckys Luck pulled off a 51-1 stunner in the $15,000 conditioned pace for trainer/driver Stephane Audet, who has watched the pacer go off at odds of 74-1 and 125-1 in his last two outings.
The six-year-old son of Camluck, who never saw the rail throughout the mile, relied on his closing skills to post the 2:01 decision over Gogogadgetgo and Stallone.
It was the seventh win of the campaign for Buckys Luck, who is owned by Aurel Harvey Et Fils Inc. of Riviere-Malbaie, QC. The pacer has banked in excess of $143,000 to date.
