Shark Week continued on Saturday evening (Dec. 23) with his usual plan of attack and achievement of victory as he earned his 15th win in a row in the $14,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at Century Mile.
Mike Hennessy and Shark Week soared from post seven to the top before setting panels in :27.2, :55.4 and 1:25.1. Maintaining their 1-1/2-length lead throughout the mile and across the wire, the Rod Hennessy trainee extended his win streak in 1:52.3. No Collusion (Brandon Campbell) finished second with Icy Blue Scooter (Nathan Sobey) third.
Lorne Duffield and Rod Hennessy are the co-owners of the five-year-old Vertical Horizon gelding. Canada's winningest horse of the year, Shark Week earned his 20th victory in 24 starts this season and 40th career tally, moving his bankroll to $341,475. He returned $2.20 as the heavily backed favourite.

Shark Week
I'm really surprised that Shark Week isn't a finalist for an O'Brien award. He paced the fastest mile in Western Canada history, he hasn't lost a race since April, and his 20 wins in 2023 are the second-most of any standardbred in North America. Dunkin', the leader in wins with 21, has made 40 starts this year. Shark Week has only made 24.
