Ole Jack Magic Wows Western Foes

Harold Wilson's Ole Jack Magic ($3.60) looked every bit the part of an odds-on favourite in Wednesday's (Dec. 23) featured event at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, delivering a decisive 5-3/4-length victory over his six rivals in the final $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot of 2020 in London.

Colin Kelly wasted no time with the nine-year-old Kadabra gelding and gunned him to the lead from post 3. Once they cleared the pole-sitting Magics Lucky Charm into the first turn and forced Irish Thunder to tuck into the three-hole, it was lights out. Ole Jack Magic travelled uncontested through splits of :29.2, 1:00.1 and 1:30.3 before drawing away on the final turn en route to a 2:02 victory. Twofourroadie (Travis Henry) swung three-wide off the final turn to claim a no-match second; Herbs Journey (Doug McNair) emerged between rivals in the final sixteenth of the mile to finish third.

It was Ole Jack Magic's eighth win of the season and the 37th of his career.

Racing is slated to return to Western Fair in January 2021, pending provincial approval. The track plans to offer racing four nights a week — Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday — through the end of May.
