Driver Billy Davis Jr. entered Flamboro Downs' 12-dash card of harness racing on Sunday holding a one-win lead over J.R. Plante in the track's 2012 standings, but managed to put some distance between his nearest rival with a five-win night at the Dundas, Ont. half-mile oval.
The resident of Cambridge, Ont. picked up his first win of the evening in the third race aboard the front-stepping Lucky Millionaire ($5.90) for trainer Bonnie Goit. He later got Victor Puddy trainee Tweeny Bayama ($12.20) to the wire first in the sixth dash, winning by a head, and went back-to-back with Prince Of Pleasure ($12.80) scoring by four for Richard Fife. Davis also won the 10th and 11th races with the Andy Avery-trained Best Risque ($6.30) by a neck and Ian Downey-conditioned Hoosier King ($8).
Davis now boasts 244 wins this year at Flamboro. Plante remains second on the local leaderboard with 238 triumphs.
Davis is also among the top drivers in Canada this season as he currently ranks second nation-wide behind Trevor Henry with 456 victories on the year. He is enjoying a career-best season with his mounts banking more than $4.97 million.
