An article in today's edition of The Toronto Star by Sovereign Award winning racing writer Dave Perkins points out that Jody Jamieson slipped by the Lou Marsh voting committee unnoticed, but Perkins has zeroed in on a fact that many others have yet to shed light on
.
Jamieson, the 33-year-old resident of Cambridge, Ont. whom has been tearing up the North American dash-winning list this season, heads into today's racing action with 780 continental wins, 771 of which have come on Canadian soil, a new national record.
As Perkins points out, with Jason Bartlett second in North American dash wins this year (720), Jamieson will wrap up 2009 as the first Canadian-based pilot to top the list in 30 years. The last to do it was Ron Waples, who tallied 443 pari-mutuel victories in the 1979 racing season.
"That's a real big thing to me," said Jamieson, who has been nominated for an O'Brien Award. "I've watched close up the greatest drivers in the sport and so many are Canadian. To do what no Canadian has done in so long means a lot to me."

The record you have achieved is nice,but the way you got it leaves lots for discussion.Driving all over Southern Ontario to break a record is unproffessional.You have the ability to drive at the big circuit on a continuous basis but going to places like Woodstock on a Saturday afternoon,Georgian on a Tuesday night and even stopping in at Westen Fair for 4 or 5 races on a Monday afternoon takes away drives for those drivers not able to live the big track.You have a short memory when you raced out of Flamboro and had to take a back seat when Randy and Chris pulled this stunt.
