World By Storm took the Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway oval by storm as he won with a gate-to-wire effort in the $23,288 conditioned trot on Wednesday, Dec. 17, establishing a new track record for sophomore trotting geldings.
Austin Hanners sent the gelded son of Tactical Landing-Womans Will to the early lead, and World By Storm led his seven foes past the opening panels of :27 and :55.3. He faced some moderate pressure from Drebin (Anthony MacDonald) at the three-quarters in 1:23.3 but left him behind in the lane, coming home in :28.3 to complete the mile in 1:52.3 and lower the record by 1-1/5 seconds. Drebin was 2-1/2 lengths back in second, and Texsong Soprano (Kayne Kauffman) finished third, five lengths behind the winner.
Anette Lorentzon trains World By Storm for ACL Stuteri AB. The winning gelding took his eighth lifetime win in 29 outings with the career-best performance. He paid $8.80 at the mutuels.
In the $32,877 Open II Trot, Abbey D (Luke Hanners) finished second but was elevated to the top spot due to interference in the stretch by unofficial winner Looks Like Moni (MacDonald).
Cs Flying Co Pilot (Clint Coy) won the early battle for the lead and briefly held command past the opening quarter in :28.2. Looks Like Moni was not content being third at the rail and was hustled to the top before the half-mile station in :57.2, then led past the three-quarters in 1:26. Sayinwhatimthinkin (Trevor Smith) made a three-wide move before the three-quarters to get into position around the final turn, with Abbey D using the live cover and fanning wide in the lane.
As they battled down the stretch, Looks Like Moni appeared to drift in the lane, causing Sayinwhatimthinkin to make a bobble. Looks Like Moni held on to finish first but was placed third behind Sayinwhatimthinkin. Abbey D, who had rallied to be a narrow second, was placed first with a clocking of 1:55 and a margin of a neck.
Abbey D, a six-year-old Uncle Peter-B Vs Sister mare, is trained by Deborah Swartz for Bradley Delaney. She is currently on a four-race winning streak and is now 26-for-116 lifetime. Her win price was $18.20.
Luke Hanners had four winners on the 14-race card.
Racing at Dayton resumes on Thursday with a 4 p.m. first-post time.
