Wanda Bayama will shoot for a sweep of this year’s Niagara Series following Friday’s second leg score at Woodbine Racetrack.

Sylvain Filion guided Wanda Bayama to a 1:52.4 triumph in last week’s opening leg of the series, and the filly returned to victory lane in Friday’s second leg thanks to a come-from-behind tally in 1:54.

Amazing Control fired to the lead from Post 10 and had nine rivals chasing her to the quarter pole in :28.2. Much Adoo popped out of the three-hole as the field headed into the backstretch, and she eventually worked her way to the front on the way to the half-mile point in :57.1. Shesagamemajor came first-over going into the final turn, and she pushed Much Adoo to the three-quarter marker in 1:25. Much Adoo put away her first-over attacker, but she was no match for Wanda Bayama in the lane. That filly, who got away seventh before finding third-over cover in the backstretch, unleashed a :28-second closing quarter to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Much Adoo, with third prize earned by Amazing Control.

Stephane Larocque trains the three-year-old daughter of Western Ideal-Joyce Bayama for Bayama Farms Inc of Saint-Andre-D’Argenteuil, Quebec. The homebred now boasts a 6-2-3 record from 17 starts this season in addition to a lifetime bankroll that now sits at $55,814.

Earlier on the program it was Sandbetweenurtoes turning in a dominant performance in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace for the tandem of driver Sylvain Filion and trainer Richard Moreau.

Filion tucked his charge into the two-hole while Ms Mac N Cheese – the stablemate of Sandbetweenurtoes – fired to the front. Ms Mac N Cheese hit the quarter pole in :27.1 before Filion revved up the engine on Sandbetweenurtoes and asked her to sprint to the lead just as the field moved into the backstretch. Once in command, Sandbetweenurtoes sliced out middle splits of :56.1 and 1:24.2. She then used a :27.4 kicker to win by two lengths over Ms Mac N Cheese in 1:52.1. Betit To Getit, who was riding a five-race winning streak, settled for the show dough.

Brad Grant of Milton, Ontario owns the four-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Als Girl. She captured the Ellamony Stakes earlier this season at Flamboro Downs, and later grabbed the runner-up spot in the Breeders Crown Mare Pace at Woodbine Racetrack. She won for the fifth time this season and for the 13th time in her career. She’s banked $568,127 to date.
