Pompano Park’s Monday (Dec. 16) program featured the start of the ‘Pop-Up’ series, which featured a pair of five-eighths-mile sprints in its opening leg. ‘The top 10’ will be invited to the lengthy one-and-quarter-mile finale.

Ideal Candidate and Quick Art were victorious in their respective divisions on Monday. The former scored in 1:09.1 in his five-eighths dash and the latter hit the wire in 1:09.2.

Ideal Candidate, a 13-year-old gelded warhorse from the Mike Murphy stable, got picture perfect handling from Bryce Fenn to score his 69th career victory in what was his 368th lifetime start. Ideal Candidate is now owned by Laura Searway and the win pushed his career bounty to $412,530. He paid a handsome $21.60 to win.

Quick Art, driven by Rick Plano for trainer John MacDonald, made his Pompano Park fall debut a winning one by using the draw (Post 1) as his wire-to-wire strategy in winning his event.

Owned by George Tackley and Wendy Storrier, Quick Art recorded the 31st win of his career on Monday. The seven-year-old gelding’s victory vaulted his bankroll to $254,633.

Off at odds of 14-1, Quick Art paid $30 to his faithful.

The only thing hotter than the south Florida weather on Tuesday night (Dec. 17) will be a $75,000 guaranteed pool for Pompano Park's Pick-4.

With four chalks shut out in Monday's Pick-4, there were no winning tickets on the 1-1-1-5 combination, which resulted in a carryover of $15,934.89 heading into the Tuesday program.

Tuesday's Pick-4 will be contested on races five through eight.

Also of note, the Super Hi-5 carryover for Tuesday has ballooned to $6,483.73 and will be held in Race 8.

Post time for the Tuesday festivities is at 7:20 p.m.
