Siblings Tajmeallover and Watch My Luck swept the top two spots in Friday night's $10,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Northlands Park.
The half-sisters out of the As Promised mare Watch Over Me are trained by Marjorie Dumont and owned by J.F. Gagne, Peter Van Seggelen and Carl Warnaar. The winner is also owned by Tapron Holdings Ltd.
Fresh off her Open victory against the boys last week, Tajmeallover was back to dominating the distaffers in Friday night's feature. Driven by Gagne, the five-year-old Tajma Hall mare circled the field of five to win by one and a quarter lengths in 1:57.3 over the frozen track on a -21 degree evening in Edmonton. Her younger Camluck sister was driven by Jamie Gray.
American Passion (Brandon Campbell) had her nose right on the gate and left out from post two for the top spot before inside starter Thats Extra (Kelly Hoerdt) looped to the lead at the :29.4 first quarter mark. The new leader then sped away by four lengths to the half in :58. Meanwhile, Watch My Luck went first-up from fourth with Tajmeallover tracking her cover before fanning three-wide at the 1:27.1 third quarter mark. Closing on the far outside, Tajmeallover defeated Watch My Luck to earn her third straight victory while Thats Extra finished two and a half lengths behind in third. American Passion and Nighttraintovegas (Nathan Sobey) completed the line-up.
Tajmeallover was sent postward as the 1-9 favourite and paid $2.30 to win. She earned her 14th victory of the year from 26 starts and boosted her bankroll to $111,785.
