The Camerons Pacing Series kicked off on Saturday night at Georgian Downs with driver Scott Coulter winning three of the four $10,000 first leg divisions.
Coulter teamed up with trainer Richard Moreau to win three races on the 12-dash card, including the opening two divisions of the Camerons Pacing Series. His first victory came with three-year-old gelding Jordons Boy ($3.40), who held on by a nose to score in a lifetime-best 1:55 flat. The streaking sophomore Always An Optimist ($4.30) later swept from third to first after the half and cruised home to win his series split in a career-best 1:53.2 by over three lengths for the duo.
Coulter went back-to-back winning the very next division with the David Menary-trained sophomore Star Chaser ($4), who romped to a 1:54 seven length tally, his third in a row, while making his Canadian debut.
Georgian Downs' leading driver and trainer also clicked in an earlier claiming race with trotter Think Gold ($4).
The final Camerons division went to three-year-old gelding Savannah Splendor ($3.40) and driver Jonathan Drury in a lifetime-best equalling 1:53.2. The Scott West trainee advanced from fifth to first after the half-mile mark and opened up four and a half lengths on the field. He is now two-for-two on Canadian soil.
The series is for pacers that are non-winners of $25,000 lifetime as of November 30, 2012 (no allowances). The second leg will take place on Saturday, December 22 and the $40,000 (added) final will be held on Monday, December 31.
