As the fabled Olympic torch makes its way across Canada to Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics, harness racing will once again have a connection to the torch run
.
Trot Blogger Adam Mauntah of Ottawa will be one of the relay runners as the torch makes its way across the country. A former lawyer with the Weaver-Simmons law firm in Sudbury, Mauntah will be returning to the Sudbury area on January 2 to take part in the Olympic torch relay as it passes through Dowling, Ont., just west of Sudbury Downs.
During the two years he spent in Sudbury, Mauntah volunteered his time with the Wild at Heart Refuge Centre, and as a reader for VoicePrint Canada, and served on the GEODE board of directors. He said he has made a commitment to continue leading an active and environmentally-friendly lifestyle in Ottawa.
Despite only being in the area for a short time, the lawyer told Northern Life that he feels “very much at home in Sudbury,” and is looking forward to sharing “this special day with friends and family in a special place.”
“I am thrilled at the idea of sharing a common experience with people across the country,” said Mauntah. “Participating in the Olympic Torch Relay is a unique opportunity to reaffirm my pride in my country.”
