Ontario Liberal MPP Rob Cerjanec has commented on the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s decision to maintain the expanded gaming located at Hiawatha Horse Park in Sarnia.
In an article published on Thursday, reports from both Sarnia and Peterborough indicated that the slots operations previously announced to close in 2026 would remain open on five-year lease agreements.
"This is great news for everyone involved that OLG will be working to extend the casino lease at Hiawatha Horse Park," said Cerjanec in a statement. "This decision helps preserve more than 40 local jobs and ensures continued economic activity for the Sarnia community.
"As the Ontario Liberal Critic for Economic Development, Tourism, Culture and Sport, I am proud to have assisted these efforts through my advocacy with the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, including formal letters, direct conversations, and raising concerns publicly at the committee level at Queen’s Park. I look forward to visiting the facility in 2026 and experiencing all that Sarnia has to offer."
