A more aggressive tactical approach in addition to some traffic woes for race favourite Andover America all played a part in a score for Star Ruffnready in Monday’s $38,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Racetrack

.

Mike Saftic got away third with Star Ruffnready while Hour Lavec and Hes A Demon battled to the quarter pole in :27.2. Hes A Demon muscled to the lead, but it was a short-lived lead thanks to a second-quarter attack from Star Ruffnready. Saftic started up the engine on the gelding and he had no problem brushing the top.

Once in command of the tempo, Star Ruffnready clicked off panels of :56.3 and 1:24.3 before using a :28.3 to seal the deal in 1:53.1. Zeus Lightning enjoyed a ground-saving journey and finished second, while race favourite Andover America came on strong to finish third after racing near the back of the pack for the majority of the mile.

James Lamacchia conditions the six-year-old son of Armbro Winner-Star Wild Orchid for the Quebec partnership of Pepiniere Nicky Inc of Lery and Lewis Murphy of St-Etienne-De-Beauharnois. It was the seventh win of the season, and career win number 15 for the career winner of $389,931.
