On the strength of three consecutive wins, Jett Propelled was once again bet down to 1-20 favouritism in her $20,000 second-round Delaware Standardbred Breeders' Fund (DSBF) split for three-year-old pacing fillies on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Bally's Dover. And, once again, the daughter of Roddys Bags Again-Jett Away lived up to the billing, this time by way of a decisive 1:54.3 score over sloppy going in the second of three divisions.
Jason Thompson launched forward with Jett Propelled out of post three and the pair cleared Smalltown Bad Girl (Tim Tetrick) to control a :28 first quarter. After coasting through middle splits of :57.2 and 1:25.4, Jett Propelled steadily drew clear to leave Smalltown Bad Girl 2-3/4 lengths in her wake. Bad Nella Monella (Montrell Teague) rallied mildly to take third, another eight lengths in arrears.
Robert Shahan owns, trains and bred Jett Propelled, who has won 11 times in her career and paid $2.10 to win.
American Marvel and driver Tony Morgan earned a 1:58.2 victory for trainer Vince Copeland and owner Look Ahead Racing in the first division, conducted as a non-wagering event. After rating a :59 first half, the Delmarvalous-Allamerican Caress filly held off a late challenge from pocket foe Designs On You (Allan Davis) to win for the fourth time in her career by three-quarters of a length. Sweet Bobbie Jo (Corey Callahan) was third.
In the third and final division, Slipinsidewayz and driver Victor Kirby opted for a pocket ride behind Bellas Dream (Teague) through the first three-quarters in 1:28.2 before challenging in the stretch and prevailing by a half length in 1:58.4. Grace O Malley (Jason Green) was third. Bryan Truitt trains the victorious Badlands Hanover-Day Trip filly, who paid $2.60 in her fifth career win, for Bryan Truitt Jr.
The Bally's Dover DSBF series for three-year-old pacing fillies culminates in a $110,000 USD championship event next Wednesday, Dec. 18, with the following eight fillies having qualified: Jett Propelled, Slipinsidewayz, American Marvel, Amelia Maximus, Smalltown Bad Girl, Bad Nella Monella, Bellas Dream and Designs On You.
Sophomore male pacers take part in three $20,000 USD second-round DSBF splits on Thursday, Dec. 12 at Bally's Dover. The first will take place as a non-wagering event at 4:10 p.m., while the second and third are on the early portion of a 15-race pari-mutuel card due to commence at 4:30 p.m.
There will be a $34,963 Pentafecta carry over at Bally’s Dover on Thursday, Dec. 12. The wager will be offered on the 15th and final race on the betting card and is a 50-cent wager. The Pentafecata consists of the first five finishers in the official order of finish.
