Officials from Pennsylvania have followed New Jersey's lead and, for now, banned standardbreds that were at the Dovington Training Center. The action comes due to the confirmation of a seven-year-old mare testing positive for herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1).
Tintabella N showed signs of the viral disease on December 1. The mare was euthanized on Sunday, December 7.
Officials from New Jersey announced yesterday that Meadowlands Racetrack and Freehold Raceway would not be accepting entries of horses shipping from the Dovington Training Center.
Today's news that Pennsylvania is taking the same actions as New Jersey comes from delawareonline.com.
"That (banning the horses) was done out of an abundance of caution," Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture spokesman Chris Ryder was quoted as saying. "They've (Pennsylvania tracks) been instructed not to let horses from that facility on their tracks until the situation is resolved."
