With his 1:53.3 victory with Lucky House in the fifth race at Harrah's Philadelphia on Monday (December 9), Yannick Gingras not only topped $14-million in seasonal earnings, but he also became latest driver to reach the $100-million mark in career earnings.
The 34-year-old Gingras entered the year 23rd on the earnings leaderboard, but with his career-best year he jumped past eight drivers. The standings show Gingras will soon be joined in the exclusive club by Andy Miller ($99,973,214 through December 9) and Dave Magee ($99,637,606).
Gingras has 517 wins in 2013 to place him ninth on that overall list. He currently has 4,822 career victories so he is on pace to top the 5,000 mark sometime next spring.
"I knew going into the year it would be a longshot because I had to get both; to get to $100 million I had to get to $14 million. But that was a goal of mine anyways,” Gingras said Tuesday. "It definitely made it nice that it came with a Ron Burke horse because as many races as we've won together, it was nice to get it done with one of his.
"My goal definitely this year was to get to $100 million,” added Gingras who, along with Tim Tetrick and Brian Sears, are on the U.S. Harness Writers Ballot for 2013 Driver of the Year. "The 5,000 wins, that's nice and it's great to rack them up, but I'm more proud of the money because it means you are able to win bigger races. That's what I'm aiming for.”
