There is a stretch battle brewing with just one month left in 2016 as two drivers remain in the hunt for Canada's dash-winning title.
Only 16 wins separate drivers Bob McClure and Alfie Carroll atop the Canadian leaderboard. Both Ontario reinsmen are enjoying career years and have earned over 500 wins in 2016, with 26-year-old McClure currently holding the slight lead at 519 to Carroll's 503. Carroll was the leader last year winning 408 races while McClure ranked third with 340 victories.
Sylvain Filion has solidified his lead in the earnings category having driven horses to over $7.3 million in purses thus far. The Milton, Ontario reinsman boasts a leading margin of over $2.4 million ahead of Trevor Henry.
Richard Moreau tops all trainers for both wins and earnings. His Puslinch, Ontario-based stable has won 236 races while banking over $3.7 million in purses. Travis Cullen remains the runner-up in the win category after his recent move from Alberta to Ontario with 207 victories while Jimmy Takter's Canadian starters have earned over $2.2 million for second-place in the money category.
Atlantic reinsman Gilles Barrieau boasts the top driving URS of 0.422 in Canada while Laval, Quebec horseman Yves Tessier's training URS of 0.489 gives him the lead in that category. Cullen ranks close behind in second with impressive averages for both driving (0.419) and training (0.456).
