It has been reported that Australian racing commission officials have asked the federal government for the power to approach telecommunication providers in order to examine phone records of horsepeople that are under scrutiny.

According to an article by the Herald Sun, Dayle Brown, who is the head of integrity with Racing Victoria, has said that not having the call records of individuals that have been investigated have hampered the effectiveness of the Down Under organization.

The report has quoted Brown as saying that “it is critical (that) stewards and integrity officers have access to call charge records to ensure that investigations are managed effectively and more ¬informed decisions ... can be undertaken.”

According to the report, Racing Victoria believes that the access is critical in order to unearth suspicious betting activity. The organization also believes that such access could shine the light on links between racing participants and criminals.

“Now is the time that professional sports need additional integrity powers, not less,” Brown was quoted as saying.
