Silverstein entered the record books for the second time this year as he equalled the world record for a two-year-old trotting gelding on a five-eighths-mile track in his $140,845 Kentucky Sire Stakes Final for rookie male trotters on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at Cumberland Run.
After getting away third in a :28 quarter, Silverstein looped to the lead for David Miller and was in command through :57.3 and 1:24.3 middle fractions. The first-over Fineline Hanover (Todd McCarthy) was unable to threaten the leader, and Silverstein closed out the mile in :28.1 while drawing four lengths clear in a 1:52.4 victory. Fineline Hanover finished second, followed by Inverness Ave (Scott Zeron).
The clocking matched the record set by Amigo Volo in the Matron at Dover Downs in 2019.
The victory came a month and a day after Silverstein tied the world record for a gelded freshman trotter over a mile track at The Red Mile in the International Stallion Stakes. He has now won three straight races for trainer Matt Burkholder and has hit the board in 11 of 12 starts in his rookie campaign, including a show finish in the Mohawk Million. The Chapter Seven-Shining Brightly gelding, owned by Dark Horse Farm LLC of Vienna, Ohio, has won four times and earned $512,583. He paid $2.88 to win.
The winners of the other two-year-old finals were Naked And Famous ($10.42) in 1:54.2 for driver Todd McCarthy and trainer Noel Daley in the filly trot, Downbythelakeside ($16.76) in 1:50.4 with Tim Tetrick aboard for Tony Dinges in the male pace, and Gala ($2.10) in 1:50.1 for Todd McCarthy and Andrew Harris in the filly pace.
The three-year-old finals went to Winnpanzee ($5.18) in 1:53 for Yannick Gingras and Ron Burke in the distaff trot, Three Times Bettor ($5.18) in 1:50 for Miller and Brett Pelling in the filly pace, the Joe Bongiorno-trained and -driven Precise Landing ($35.90) in 1:52.3 in the colt trot, and Captain Arturovico ($7) for Dexter Dunn and Burke in 1:50 in the final for pacing males.
The four-year-old winners were Women Layer ($2.10) in 1:49 with Dunn driving for Virgil Morgan Jr. in the pace for males, Pizzelle ($3.80) in 1:52.4 for Todd McCarthy and trainer Carter Pinske in the mare trot, Bath Bomb ($2.20) for Andrew McCarthy and Per Engblom in 1:50.1 in the mare pace, and Hung Over ($4.46) in 1:53.4 for Marvin Luna and trainer Bob Stewart in 1:53.4 in the male trot.
The 12-race all-stakes program completed the Kentucky Sire Stakes program for this season.
