The 2013 Standardbred Horse Sales Company Annual Sale will offer more than 2,100 harness racing horses for public auction at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg from Monday, November 4 through Saturday, November 9.
The Mixed Sale concludes on Saturday after the first mixed session ended with a pair of sisters selling back-to-back and bringing the highest bids of the day.
Harrisburg's yearling portion concluded on Thursday. The 265 yearlings that went through the ring in the fourth session reached gross sales of $4,830,500. That translated into an average price of $18,228. In total, 1047 yearlings sold over the course of the last four days for gross sales of $35,959,500. The average sale price for the yearling portion of the sale was $34,345.
In 2012, a total of 1,162 yearlings went through the ring with gross sales of $33,568,500 and an average sale price of $28,889.
Selling as Hip 564, Arwa Hanover was purchased for $110,000 by New York's Jeff Gural to top the third session. Consigned by Hanover Shoe Farms, the Andover Hall-Always A Starlet filly is a half-sister to Reynolds Stakes winner Astarsborn Hanover ($92,516 - 1:54.1).
White Bliss, the rare white Standardbred yearling that has made headlines since last Spring, was the sale topper during Tuesday's session of the Black Book Yearling Sale in Harrisburg, Pa. The son of Art Major-Coochie Mama was purchased for $240,000 by European casino executive Tristan Sjoberg, who currently owns racehorses with top Swedish trainer Ake Svanstedt.
The 218 horses in Monday’s opening session had gross sales of $14,197,000 and an average sale price of $65,124. Last year’s opening day session saw 239 go through the ring for gross sales totaling $12,830,500 for an average of $53,684.
