Jody Jamieson was announced as the Professional Athlete of the Year for 2011 for the City of Cambridge at their 38th Annual Sports Banquet earlier this evening at the Cambridge Holiday Inn
.
“It has been an important tradition for the City of Cambridge to celebrate our local athletes,” said Mayor Doug Craig. “This banquet is one way we do it.”
Jamieson, a resident of Moffat, Ont., was recognized for his accomplishments as a professional harness driver for 2011, highlighted by his second World Driving Championship title. Other highlights for Canada's leading money earning driver in 2011 include winning the $1.5 million North America Cup and earning two Breeders Crown trophies. Jamieson also surpassed the 6,000 career win milestone mark and pushed his lifetime earnings over $85 million.
"I'm honoured to be recognized by the City of Cambridge," Jamieson told Trot Insider after the banquet. "When they read my list of 2011 accomplishments out to the people in attendance I was equally surprised. When you put it all together it was an amazing year and one that I'm very proud of!"
The event offers a platform to announce the ‘Professional Athlete of the Year’, ‘Amateur Athlete of the Year’, ‘Team of the Year’ and ‘Sports Contributor’, as well as naming the ‘High School Team’ and ‘Sports Organization of the Year’.
