He was the youngest driver to have a million dollar season in 2008 and in a matter of days he'll be the youngest driver in harness racing to hit
1,000 wins.
On today's Trot Radio, driver Doug McNair speaks to Norm Borg as he approaches the 1,000 win plateau. After Monday's card at Western Fair, he's just 18 wins shy of the milestone. At this pace, McNair will be the first driver to achieve 1,000 wins before his 21st birthday. Matt Kakaley was three months past his 21st birthday when he became the youngest driver to hit the 1,000 win mark in 2009.
"I've just been taking it as it's coming and everything's shaping up together," said McNair, "It's unbelievable, really."
McNair also talks about the ride with three-year-old colt pacer Aracache Hanover and what makes him such a good horse.
"He's real nice to drive, he grabs on a little bit but he's got a real nice mouth on him," states McNair. "He's a tank to sit behind. And he's easy to drive, really. He just changes gears, ask him whatever you want him to do he usually does it for you."
The interview also discusses the status of OK Commander, what it's like to drive for his father Gregg and what makes him such a good horseman.
"I love driving for him, it's a lot different driving for him than some other guys. I'll drive a horse for him and it won't race any good at all, and he'll have it back in the next week and it will be a different horse.
"He's very sharp and he's helped me get to where I am today."
