As we prepare to flip the calendar to December, horsepeople at Truro Raceway are still readying their charges to compete, as the Nova Scotia raceway will be offering live cards every Sunday of the month. The Truro Daily News has run a profile of the track, as it looks to gain some stability moving forward.

The piece, written by Ryan Cooke, offers comments from Truro Harness Horse Owners Association President Steve Morton and Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Board of Directors Chairman Bruce Kennedy.

Morton was quoted as saying that the lengthy season at the half-mile raceway was due to successful negotiations with the NSPE earlier this year.

“We’ve been working closely with the province and with the exhibition and things are going well,” Morton was quoted as saying. “(The long season) is just another example of that.”

In speaking about the future of the racing industry in the general area, Kennedy was quoted as saying that the introduction of an operating racing venue in the Halifax Metro area would be a boost to the industry.

“You need a farm system, like the NHL has the minor leagues and junior leagues – I see harness racing no differently,” Kennedy was quoted as saying. “Creating a market in a region with 500,000 people can have a big effect in a nearby area with 15,000.”
