It All Comes Down To The Breeders Crown

With the Breeders Crown just days away, Sovereign Award-winning sports writer Dave Perkins, in an article in The Toronto Star, has analyzed the race for U.S. Horse of the Year between Somebeachsomewhere and Deweycheatumnhowe. In this case, it just may all come down to the Breeders Crown.

"[Somebeachsomewhere] did much of his racing this side of the border, which doesn't always register down below (the U.S.). There still might be voters who need convincing he's a better choice than 'Dewey,'" wrote Perkins, who went on to state that, "if either colt wins his Crown and the other loses, the argument ceases."

Perkins notes in his piece that if 'The Beach' wins on Saturday, the son of Mach Three will surpass the great Gallo Blue Chip's single-season earnings record of $2.4 million. He also states that if 'Dewey' trots home a winner in his 'Crown' dash, the Muscles Yankee bay will best Donato Hanover's single-season earnings record (for trotters) of $2.3 million.

Let the Breeders Crown decide it.If Beach wins and Dewey doesn't,give it to Beach. If Dewey wins and Beach doesn't,give it to Dewey. If they both win (or lose)call it a tie and make them co-winners.

No contest the beach should get horse of the year as one of the greatest pacers ever, and should win the breeders crown as well.

In all fairness there shouldn't be a horse of the year. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Comparing a trotter to a pacer is no different than comparing a thoroughbred to a standardbred. Not Beach nor any other three-year-old could race and beat Mr Big and yet he's not even being considered. They can race him if they want but he can't race against them, not very fair.

Oh please, their is no comparison. Don't insult the beach by comparing him to mr big. The beach has done it all. This is the best horse the world has ever seen regardless of age. Are you telling me that Mr. Big would have went by the Beach in Lexington when he won in 1:46 and change, Please!!!!

For those that don't know the difference between racing the aged pacing ranks and the three-year-old ranks then there's no explaining!!
Got to be kidding??? Why didn't The Beach race in the aged ranks then... heck why didn't he race the best three-year-olds in the jug???
The mile was 46.4 it wasn't as good a mile as what Art Offical put in the Meadowlands Pace. Beach was handed the lead with absolutely no challenge the entire mile. Art Official was challenged nearly the entire mile and went only one fifth of a second slower. Anyone that knows anything about racing knows it was a much more difficult mile. PLEASE!!!

no question shadow play is right up there and a good horse with great qualities but the beach however is the champion horse who has it all.

shadow play get's my vote
heck they even raced him with a seperated foot. twice in the same day
they scratched the beach with a bruised foot. even against some OSS horses

Horse Of The Year has to go to Dewey the way he raced and the travel he put in to the various tracks. Somebeach hid in Canada with no competition. In the U.S. two horses looked him in the eye and one beat him. If Shadow Play had gone the softer first quarter he would have won.

Shadow Play deserves votes for winning the toughest pace. The Little Brown Jug....

Shadow Play and a little known horse by the name of Rudy Rednose might have something to say about it being no contest. Don't make out the cheque just yet. What are all you beach bums going to do if the beach gets his butt kicked?? I know a couple of good psychiatrists!

Should be no contest, the beach has left people with their mouth hanging open with some of the performances he put in. Look at the only time he got beat, it was a world record and he was parked to the half in 51 and change!!!! and still just got beat a neck in 47. Have a look at where Die laughing finished when Arts Place parked him. I don't think dewey is even the best trotter we have ever seen.

A lot of you beachheads seem to have lost sight that Art Offical was taken pretty hard to the front himself and stayed with it. Pretty amazing mile he went I'd say. He took a brutal trip himself and he won by a neck! I realize that taking a brutal trip and then finishing SECOND by a neck is no shame but finishing FIRST after taking a brutal trip is even better.
