'Solitaire' Debuts In Mohawk Qualifiers

Unraced two-year-old pacing colt Playing Solitaire recorded his first-ever charted mile this morning during the six-race qualifying session at Mohawk Racetrack

Over a 'good' track which was rated two seconds slow all morning, Playing Solitaire, a $52,000 yearling purchase, came from off the pace for driver Mario Baillargeon to post a one-length victory in 1:57.4.

Trained by Ben Wallace for co-owners Bradley Grant and the Kentuckiana Racing Stable, Playing Solitaire was more than 10 lengths back in sixth at the half before coming first-up on the final turn. The colt was second at the 1:29.3 three-quarters pole and came home with :27.3 final-quarter speed to get the job done.

The other victorious horses this morning were Mirado, Gotcha Covered, Mystic River, Sportsman and Its On My Tab.

The qualifying session was the first to take place on Thursday since the Woodbine Entertainment Group announced a switch to the usual Monday/Friday format.
