Ole Jack Magic certainly preferred the added distance to the featured event on Wednesday (Nov. 25) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
A field of eight lined up in the $9,400 Preferred 3 Trot, carded at a distance of 1-1/16 miles. Favoured Sicario (Brett MacDonald) fronted the field through fractions of :28.4, :58.2 and 1:29.2 and appeared to be opening up on his rivals around the final turn. Ole Jack Magic (Colin Kelly) was second over with more than five lengths to make up on the leader and looked to have an impossible mission turning for home. But Ole Jack Magic closed the gap on the temposetter with every stride approaching the wire, and got up in the final strides for the 2:07.4 victory. Willieorwonthe (Daryl Thiessen) couldn't close on the leader from the pocket but was best of the rest in third.
Trained by owner Harold Wilson of Guelph, Ont., Ole Jack Magic (Kadabra - Whitesand Electra) picked up his seventh win of the season and 36th lifetime. The nine-year-old's career earnings exceed $443,000.
