The Stratford & District Historical Society recently unveiled a short documentary on the late Ted Fawm and his family's rich history in horse racing across Southwestern Ontario and northern United States.

From the early days of E.W. Fawm and his car dealerships to training winning horses, the Fawm family's story is full of passion, family traditions and unforgettable memories. The tale spans multiple generations, with stories of racing at local tracks, memorable horse rides and even daring moments involving crime and quick thinking.

Ted Fawm, whose father, Gordon, and grandfather, E.W., shaped the racing community, shared personal anecdotes, including the legend of a special horse named Joshua, their experiences at famous tracks like Mitchell, Clinton and Saratoga. The documentary also revisits a heartwarming moment when the family was honoured with a race named in memory of their patriarch.

Edger “Ted” Fawm passed away in November 2023.

The video, which was directed by Andrew C. Brown and produced by Nancy Musselman in association with the Stratford & District Historical Society, is available below. The Society's videos serve as a living archive, preserving voices, memories and histories that might otherwise fade with time. As generations pass and memories dim, these recordings become cherished legacies for families, communities and future historians alike.
