Striking Lindsey was in a league of his own when he was victorious in the lone $88,812 Bud Light Stakes division for two-year-old colt trotters at Flamboro Downs on Monday evening.
Starting from Post 5 in the field of eight, Striking Lindsey inherited the pocket going to the :29.3 opening quarter for driver Jody Jamieson when a trio of trotters – Cantabs Pride (Bill O’Donnell), Play Right (Mark MacDonald) and V Star (Phil Belore) – all went off stride. Coming to the 1:00.4 half, Jamieson tipped Striking Lindsey to the outside in order to pass 34-1 long shot Northern Spirit (Blair Burgess).
That task, however, posed to be more of a problem than Jamieson may have expected as Northern Spirit threw down the gauntlet around the turn. Eventually, Striking Lindsey’s class proved to be to much as the Striking Sahbra – Lindsey Fireyimage colt opened up almost three lengths at the 1:30.3 three-quarters and cruised to an easy three-length decision in 2:01.4.
Kingsbury (Paul MacDonell) finished second while the third spot went to Hibbler (Rob Shepherd).
Gregg McNair trains Striking Lindsey for owner/breeder Ken Sommer. The colt made an unfortunate break in the OSS Super Final, but still managed to finish fourth. In his freshman campaign, he is 4-2-1 in 14 starts and has banked $258,496.
