In taking a slightly different approach to the traditional mindset when it comes to off-track wagering, a racing entity has announced that it is looking for partners that would be interested in offering more of a ‘turnkey’ option for an OTB endeavour.
According to an item by the Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, officials with Darby Development, which operates Monmouth Park in New Jersey, are seeking restaurant and bar proprietors that are interested in adding off-track wagering to their existing establishments.
The pitch, under a program that has already been approved in New Jersey, would see establishment owners install kiosks where individual ‘playing pads’ can be obtained. In turn, customers at the establishments would wager on simulcast races via the machines, which would both accept cash and pay winning tickets out in cash.
If the potential establishments in question meet the criteria, they would not have to pay anything to offer the service to their customers.
“It’s an exciting way to bring horse racing even closer to fans, while simultaneously driving business to new locations that partner with us on this program,” Monmouth Park Vice President of Business Operations Bill Knauf has said. “We invite anyone who is interested to contact us to discuss this exciting new opportunity.”
