Le Fugueur won his Truro Raceway debut on Sunday, tackling the track's top pacers in the afternoon's feature race.
Le Fugueur swept off cover to take the lead in the $1,375 Winners Over class before the third quarter mark and then cruised home to a one and three-quarter length victory in 1:59.2 over the "good" track. Colin Kelly drove the veteran Omar Khayam gelding for owner/trainer Blair MacKenzie of Sydney Mines, N.S. Sophomore colt Chief Exec Officer and Gerries Beach rounded out the top three finishers.
Le Fugueur has been a regular competitor at the top level at Nova Scotia's other racetracks, Northside Downs and Inverness Raceway, and boasts 20 top-three finishes in 28 starts this year. His Truro triumph was the seventh winning effort of his nine-year-old campaign.
In other action, 14-year-old pacer Weird Albert made his last start during the Sunday program and retires with 40 career wins and $309,065 in earnings. The Albert Albert gelding competed across Ontario, Quebec and P.E.I. during his career and has raced at Truro since 2013 when he joined the Devin O'Connor stable.
