For the third consecutive week, Ziggy Wiggy used come-from-behind tactics to pull off a slim victory in Georgian Downs’ Saturday feature, the $13,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Trot.

The eight-year-old S Js Photo mare and trainer/driver Kelly Sheppard got away seventh as Canaco Runner (Paul MacKenzie) set the tempo with opening fractions of :27.3 and :57.4. The favourite, Body Surfing (Mike Langdon), attempted a first-over challenge and was able to clear the front, but broke stride at three-quarters in 1:26.4. Meanwhile, Ziggy Wiggy had moved into sixth place but used a :29.2 closing effort to catapult herself to the top of the field and prevail by a nose in 1:57.1.

Gostreet (Mike Whelan) finished second and Margie Seelster (Robert Shepherd) rounded out the top three.

Ziggy Wiggy, who is owned by Sheppard, has scored 12 wins this year with close to $100,000 in earnings. In her career, she had made 32 trips the winner’s circle bringing in a total of $198,586 in purses.
