Model Legs and Naughty Indeed won the first of two weeks of pacing prelims while Chocolate N Roses and Emily Do took the trots as the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) Two-Year-Old $20,000 Filly preliminaries got underway on Saturday, November 21 at Dover Downs
.
George Teague-trained first year filly pacers swept both $20,000 DSBF first round events. Model Legs, a Badlands Hanover-Modelaag damsel, took the lead on the clubhouse turn and then yielded to the fast stepping David Miller-driven Winbak Patty at the three quarters. Corey Callahan the pulled Model Legs out on the final turn and shot past Winbak Patty pulling away to a three-length victory. Sun Land came on for Ron Pierce to finish second with Winbak Patty third.
In the other colt prelim, Naughty Indeed lived up to her name making a misstep at the start but Montrell Teague quickly got the Badlands Hanover-Lofty Aspirations filly back on stride. By the time the field straighten in front of the grandstand, Naughty Indeed had caught the field and gained the lead and on the way to her fourth win in eight starts this season for Dennis Polimeri and VIP Stable. Fran Luck, driven by Ross Wolfenden, was second best with Cherub Hanover taking third for Bryan Truitt.
Trotters Chocolate N Roses and Emily Do had two things in common. They were favourites and they scored wire-to-wire 2:01.1. In the first division, Chocolate N Roses, a daughter of CR Commando-Confederate Rose bred, owned and trained by Erika Paradee, took the lead from the start and cruised to a 2:01.1 victory. Mike Merton drove the convincing win leading runner-up Miss Snazz and Jim Morand by two-lengths at the wire. My Command To You with Ron Pierce closed to finish second.
In the second race, the second half of the DSBF daily double, Lloyd Arnold and trainer-driver John Wagner's Emily Do romped to a 2:01.1 triumph, her sixth in seven career races. She led every step to bring her seasonal bankroll to $87,225. Punks Embrace put in a strong effort for Ron Pierce to finish second in front of Status Symbol and Les Givens.
The DSBF focus turns to the freshmen colts on Sunday with two $20,000 colt trots and paces. The headline events on Sunday are two $30,082 Matron Three-Year-Old Colt Pace elims.
Saturday and Sunday racing begins at 5:30 p.m.
