It’s a stakes day Thursday, Nov. 3 at Dover Downs. Four rich Matron Stakes for two-year-olds top the program. The Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) also gets underway with its freshman pace, first of two legs, split into four $20,000 divisions. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
Stroy Inc.’s Devious Man, the New York Sire Stakes champion, a winner of seven races and $308,233, is the one to beat in the Matron colt trot with Andy Miller driving. Money Macintosh, also owned by Stroy Inc. and trained by Julie Miller, heads the opposition but must overcome post eight. Trainer Ron Burke has two starters: Lawrence Karr, Jack Piatt II, Weaver Bruscemi and Burke Racing’s Southwind Cobra (Yannick Gingras), and Snowstorm Hanover (Matt Kakaley), fresh from the Breeders Crown for Weaver Bruscemi, Frank Baldachino, Phil Colluri and Burke Racing. Noel Daley trainee Sortie, a top-three finisher in the Breeders Crown, is the morning line favourite with Andrew McCarthy driving.
Bill Wiswell and M&L Of Delaware’s $363,990-earner Fine Tuned Lady drew the rail with Corey Callahan in the $148,700 Matron frosh filly trot. Robert Key’s homebred Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final champion Winter Sweet Frost (Scott Zeron) and Temple Ruins (Gingras), racing for Michelle Yanek, Paul Treiber, Weaver Bruscemi and Burke Racing, lead the opposition.
The $170,000 Matron filly pace is led by a pair of Ken Jacobs-owned fillies from the Linda Toscano stable. Planet Rock (Tim Tetrick) leaves from the outside post eight while Robin J (David Miller) drew post four.
The richest Matron, with a purse of $171,300, for two-year-old colt pacers features Howard Taylor, Ed Gold, Abe Basen and Tom Lazzaro’s Every Way Out (Tetrick) and Fox Hollow Farm's Breeders Crown starter Boogie Shuffle (Scott Zeron).
KDK Standardbreds’ Almost Cut My Hair (Kevin Switzer Jr.) seeks to rebound after his first loss after six consecutive wins, in one of three $20,000 DSBF first leg prelims. George Teague Inc.’s Henry The Dragon (Montrell Teague), winner of the recent Harrington DSBF $100,000 Final, puts his undefeated three-win streak on the line in another $20,000 prelim. Another Teague homebred contender, Daylen (Montrell Teague), and Tina and Brian Clark’s Automatic Dragon (Vic Kirby) tangle in the first $20,000 DSBF division. A third Teague-owned contender, Daiymir (Montrell Teague), is the one to beat in the second section.
There is no live racing on Sunday, Nov. 6.
Next Thursday, the four lucrative Matron Stakes for three-year-olds, plus the second leg of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund freshman stakes are the features.
