Go And Play Fundraiser A Success

The Go and Play Stables’ second annual Night at the Races Fundraising Dinner, which was held at Woodbine Racetrack on November 8, was once again a successful event.

Guests have said they had a fantastic time and are looking forward to more fundraisers just like it. In total, approximately $4,000 was raised and will be going directly to care for the horses as they are prepared to go to their ‘forever’ homes.

Go and Play Stables would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful individuals and organizations that helped to make the night a success. Go and Play Stables is thrilled by the amount of support being given to its program from those within the horse racing industry, horse riding community and those outside of the horse world.

Go and Play Stables would like to express its heartfelt appreciation to the following individuals and businesses:

  • Woodbine Entertainment Group, for allowing GPS to host its event at the beautiful facility

  • The entire staff at the Woodbine Club

  • Support from horsemen Carmen Auciello, Billy Davis Jr., Anthony MacDonald and Doug McNair

  • Sunderland Co-Operative for being GPS’ sponsor for the evening

  • Table sponsors: Epona Leatherworks, One Stop Swap Shop and Josh Hanson

  • Megan Downey and Sharon's Cozy Horse Creations for making the race presentation coolers

  • Meagan Moeyaert and Hezgothorseshoes (Mojo) for post parading Race 3 and 4

The Go and Play Stables also wants to say ‘thank you’ to the outstanding businesses and individuals that donated silent-auction table items, door and draw prizes. There were so many of you, it is impossible to name everyone here.

Go and Play Stables strives to promote the Standardbred’s abilities and possibilities off the track. GPS became a registered Canadian charity in 2013 and it is making plans to expand in 2015 – by launching its new Equine Facilitated Therapy program – to bring the healing effects of horses, nature and a supportive community to assist those with autism and other neuropsychiatric conditions. This is especially exciting since it opens up an opportunity for some of the GPS’ resident horses to expand their abilities in a different way.

With this new programming in mind, the search for a new, larger home in the Peterborough area has begun. GPS President Sarah Merriam-Waldram is asking that anyone that may know of any potential facilities to please contact her. Any suggestions can be emailed to [email protected].

Go and Play Stables once again wishes to thank everyone for their continued support as it works to make a difference in the lives of these wonderful horses and, beginning in 2015, those of the human kind.

Be sure to stay tuned to the GPS Facebook page for more exciting news and events.
